Well, up to this point Traveling Tales has mostly been about song writing. I know that more people write then song write, but I'm going to post 5 tips for song writing, they aren't hard and you don't need to sing well or play an instrument to use them. I'm not a good singer and I don't play any instruments anymore (>.<)
1. If you think of some words to go with a tune, write them down. This one is easy, just write them down, don't fiddle with it at all. Just make sure you'll remember them.
2. If you sing in the shower and you think of one, repeat it so you don't forget. I've not repeated so many songs that it's sad, I could have had a hit! :)
3. No one has to know. It doesn't matter is song writing isn't anything more then a secret hobby, it's still fun. No one needs to know that you write songs, no one needs to know what they say. It's all up to you, like a diary.
4. Listen to music. Well, I think you've probably figured this out, to write music you'll have to listen to music. Duh. I know you're thinking that, duh.
5. You don't have to finish your songs. Whether you finish the songs or not doesn't matter, like I said, no one needs to know so no one is going to chase you down if you don't finish one.
There you have it! See, nothing big, nothing hard, just writing a poem. Writing songs and poems are a lot a like, but I won't make this post super long by posting about poems too. Ta-DA!!
This...is...such...GOOD ADVICE!
ReplyDeleteI agree with #2. By a lot!
ReplyDeleteI agree with everything else to. If you only listen to hymns, guess what? you can only write hymns! If you listen to 50s swing, TA DA! you will (if you have talent) write 50s swing.
