The OSC

In this chapter, I'm going to introduce another character. The OSC A.K.A the Older Sister Character. This character is sort of like the BBC, but not the same as him. For the OSC, like the BBC, she can be a cousin or a friend of an aunt of a sister. Just don't make her too much older then you're MC. The OSC might have a big part in the book, or she might not, it's really up to you. The OSC isn't vital for each novel, but she does add some flair.

Who is the OSC?
Well, she is the Older Sister Character (duh) and she has some special things that are important to her. The OSC is probably an overachiever with good grades, she might be a little bit of a know-it-all and she probably gets annoyed easily. Some examples are Beatrice (Beezus) in the Ramona Series by Beverly Cleary, or Janine in The Baby Sitter's Club by Ann M. Martin. Both of them are nice girls who act older then the MC, they're a little snobby about it but they are nice in the end. They have well meaning intentions, even if they are a little bit misguided.

How to write about the OSC.
This character is pretty easy to write in, she has to be somewhat annoying. But don't make readers completely turn against her because she's probably going to end up having a couple 'sweet' moments. Most OSC's are very witty or sarcastic, but are nice to adults. They're kind of like a typical older sibling (nothing against them) I should probably say the stereotypical older sibling. You know, the one that's perfect and who does everything right.

How much older should the OSC be from the MC?
That's an important part about the OSC because if she's only a month or two older then the MC, it'll seem weird to have her be so smart. She should probably be between two and seven years older then the MC. I know that seven seems like a lot, but maybe she's a cousin or an aunt, not really a sister.

There can be a lot of sweet moments between the MC and the OSC, but a lot of times they're not very nice to each other. Keep in mind, the OSC can be a boy too. Not all older brothers have to be like the BBC and not all older sisters have to be like the OSC.
