I know that this title sounds very dramatic, but really it's not. I'm talking about that time when you have been writing like crazy for a day, an hour, a week, whatever, when you look back at the screen and think I'm so sick of writing. So what do you do?
I say this: Stop Writing. Yeah, I know what's going through your mind right now (well, not really but I'm trying to make this interesting ;)) You're thinking, "Gasp, she said stop writing, this is a writing blog, this is ludicrous, this is insanity!!!" But I'm dead serious. This situation happened to me not to long ago. The day before I had written 2,000+ word, the next day my brain was broken. I couldn't write much, though I did end up writing about 200 words. I think that when you have done well, you deserve a break. Don't do anything with your book, you can think about it, but really it'll be there tomorrow.
If you stop just for a day, then you might come back with good ideas, or you might be able to think of something really good to say, that fits perfectly where you want it. So don't sweat it and stop. Start again the next day. But stop, seriously girl, (or guy, but I'm a girl and I'm talking to me too) you can do that.
NOTE: Don't do this every day. Just when you have fried your brain into a delicious smelling fritter.
Wow, thank you for telling me this! :D I often struggle with this very thing.
ReplyDeleteCan I suggest a post? How often to write. ;) And how fast. Like, should a novel ALWAYS be done in less than a month, or can it be dragged out longer?
Great idea Shaynie, I'll take you up on that some time soon. Thanks :)
