How many main characters are there for pete's sake?!

So, I'm pretty sure that you have guessed by the title what this is about. If not, it's about main characters. Main characters are really really   it important parts of your book (so important that I underlined it and italicized), and I'm sure even people who don't write know that, okay, everyone knows that. But do you have more then one?

I read this book, er, started to read it I couldn't finish it, called Bella At Midnight. I know a that it was probably a good book, and I like the story, I really did, but it kept switching from point of view to point of view every chapter. I could hardly tell what the author was talking about. There were about five characters who told the story in the beginning, then it switched and some characters died or left throughout the whole thing. I found it really confusing.

Because of all of that I had to put the book down, so I suggest you only write with 1-3 characters. I like to do 1. I heard once that you should only have up to 5, and I think that that is a little much. But you know, you can have supporting characters that are really important too, they can come up as much as the main character, but it's not their story. I find that in stories with a lot of characters, everything was pulling in different directions and there were a lot of stories rather then one.

SUGGESTION: You could write a paragraph, page, portion of a chapter or a chapter in someone else perspective, but I highly suggest not doing it with the whole book. Have a different opinion? Please tell me, I want to know that you think.

  1. You're right about having to many perspectives!
In the current book I'm writing I have two perspectives to write from (so far at any rate, there might end up being a third :-)
The two main perspectives which I've written in this story is a character named Gwen and her younger sister Gianna, so I don't think it's too confusing :-). Keep up the good work girls! Great job on the Traveling Tales!!
