#3. Practice. Exercise your mind and add to your repertoire by writing short, very simple stories and focus on one good ability. With one short story you can concentrate on making your characters dynamic and connectible. With another, you can try writing descriptions that will leave your reader breathless.
#4. Make lists. When you have spare time, start writing down whole lists of synonyms for words you catch yourself using too often. Take the word 'said', for example. There are billions of other ways to say 'said', so write down as many as you can think of. Next time you're writing and need a substitute for 'said', look at the list!
