The Use of Grammar Part 2

#2. Grammar was meant for you to use to your advantage. Proper grammar is a writer's best friend because it ensures the reader's comfort. Sentences and paragraphs seem to glide more smoothly when there's no distracting grammatical mistakes to interrupt the reader's eye. Even better, grammar can be used to give a certain feel to things, such as '...' or '!'

Grammar doesn't have to be stiff. One of the reasons people are biased against proper grammar is that the purest proper grammar is unnatural. If something feels stiff, awkward, or just plain snobbish when they're truly grammatically correct, it's probably because you're using a grammar rule that no one else observes. In that case, why use it? Grammar is meant to make communication clearer, not to make communication snobby.

Yours without wax,

Izori
