How To Stick To Writing One Book At A Time

There are a lot of problems with this. People want to write one book, or two or three and only those, but they have about fifteen that they're excited about. It's a complicated problem, for me the reason for it is that I like to have my options, but sometimes they just have to wait. For some people, I guess writing a ton of books a one time is good for creativity, but for me it gets pretty doggone confusing.

So what do you do?

1. Pick your favorite and write.
I know it sounds simple, but it can be hard. If you pick your favorite book your working on, the one you're most happy with, the one that's the most excited, the one that you're closest to finishing, the one you would like to read, write in that one. Just write until you have to go to bed or go somewhere else or as long as you please. Get yourself an iced tea or your favorite beverage and write away.

2. Make yourself want to write more.
Leave off at a place where you want to write the next scene, make yourself think of what your going to put in next but don't write it yet. If you leave off a place where nothing's really happening, you get bored with it, right? Keep leaving off a cool places where you're excited to write more.

3. Introduce a new character.
New characters can often make things so much more interesting. You want to learn about him or her and do stuff with him or her. Things can get so much more fun when someone new comes in! It's like a new friend.

4. Make a schedule.
I'm a schedule maker-upper. I'm very into it and I think this would help me a lot, though I've never done it because I don't generally write a ton of books at one time. But this is a list of things I would do if I did and would have done when I used to write a ton of books at one time but I was younger and didn't think of it. Anyway, if you have three books you want to work on, you could work on No.1 Monday-Tuesday, No.2 Wednesday-Thursday and No.3 Friday-Saturday. On your day off you could write a different book or even take a break!

5. Plot twist time!
Who doesn't love a good plot twist? Someone could die, the bad guy could turn good, there could be a secret room, a double agent, an enchanted picture frame, anything! Let your imagination run wild and do whatever the heck you want with it. After all, you have a delete button, No?

So I hope this helps you stick to one book, add another one in if you want to!

As always, these tips are take them or leave them. I won't be offended if they don't work for you.
