What can Inspire Writing?

This is a question that isn't really hard to answer. If you think about it, inspiration is seriously crawling around on everything like a bug. It all depends on who you are and what inspires you, that's why not all the writers in the world have writer's block at the same time--it's because we're all different people and draw inspiration from different things. I bet that if someone stuck ten people in a room (with all different hobbies) at least one of them would be stuck as to what to do after they left the room. A songwriter might be thinking of a song that reminded her of the room and an artist might be drawn to all the potential in it. But since everyone is different, not everyone can get inspiration from the same thing.

So what do we get inspiration from?

Well, a lot of things. For me, a lot almost all of my inspiration comes from movies, books or music. When I was reading the Penderwicks I felt like writing about sisters or cooking, but then after reading the Ranger's Apprentice I felt like writing about something fantasy-ish and I had different plots already whirring through my head while reading the books.

But like I said, not all people are like me. In fact, no one is. 'Cause I'm me and I'm taken. I'm sure that Izori probably draws a lot of inspiration from her amazing back yard. I don't. That's okay, it doesn't mean that our ideas are better or worse, they're just different.

I got my inspiration for Invisible Angels when I was at a church retreat, I wanted to write it right away and I did. I think that it was probably the easiest book for me to write that I have written so far. There are just so many ways to get inspiration, but I think that a big problem that people have while looking for inspiration is looking too hard.

You might not get what I mean. Looking for inspiration is good, and getting inspiration is good, but don't go around looking for inspiration all the time. You can't find it everywhere, it's just going to get tiring after a little while and then you won't be able to think of anything else and you're brain will end up being a strange inspiration seeking machine.

So there are a lot of things that can inspire writing and we should look for them, but don't let the inspiration take the place of the writing.
