The Last Voyage of the Rose Petal

As I watched a delicately pink rose petal float across a puddle, I was inspired to write a poem about a fairie crew embarking on a journey with a rose petal for a ship. I was further inspired to write the ending when my brother Peter's basketball completely crushed the petal. Oh well. Such was the fate of that ethereal vessel!

The Last Voyage of the Rose Petal
(c) Izori

A crowd stood on the fairie dock,
Hanker-chiefs in hand,
Waving madly to their folk
Departing from their sand.
Ten brave were they, all fairie kind,
That saluted gallantly back.
The Rose Petal was painted on the side
Of their worthy, wondrous craft.

The Rose Petal--may her youth ne'er fade--
Pluck from under flawless skies;
No petal from a rose had ever sailed
More glorious to its demise.
With all flags streaming forth,
The crew and her plowed on,
Her sails a-fluttering in the breeze
And dew gleaming from the dawn.

Rushed they onward in the sea
Of tranquil calm and blue,
And minds on brave battles and
Quests to test that the heart is true.
They dwelt not on the rising wind,
Nor on the swilling sea,
But ignored them merrily until
Dire need caused fancy to flee.

Lightning struck to banish all their
Thoughts of gold, war, fame.
And instantly, the mast was gone
And the sails flared up in flame.
The thunder rolled, the waves were black!
None to witness the dying breaths
Of a fairie crew matched against the storm--
The cruel things sent to end their dreams.

Two years passed, and the lapping waves,
Beating against the rocks,
Brought in the tattered, torn remains
Of the ship, her glory lost.
A tragic sight, of death, defeat,
No tale of treasure had she to tell,
No fame, save the story told 'round the glowing fire
Of the last voyage of the Rose Petal.

I would love it if y'all tell me what you think of it. You can tell me that's it's stunning, or you can tell me that it was a cacophony to your ears. Even if you're going to tell me something bad about it, please tell me. I appreciate your critique to help me improve the poem.

Thanks a bunch!

Yours without wax,

Izori
