Why It Stinks to Be A Writer

Why does it stink to be a writer? Well, the answer is obvious, you can't go through life normally. You have changed your perspective once you've entered the land of writing, even with non-fiction writing. You're always thinking of how a certain thing in life could work out into your book.

Friends are no longer friends, they're potential characters, really, think about it. If they say something funny it might end up in your book, they're names even end up in your books!

Speaking of names--ugh. Doesn't it annoy you have it takes hours to name a character? Even if it's the smallest character in the book, or what about places? And if you're a non-fiction writer, what about recipes, aren't those hard to name?

And what about the problem of trying to stop writing? It's impossible! You just can't do it! If you're in a break in between books, you have to think of something that could be a book or start writing another story just for the heck of it. Then, when it comes time to actually write when you're in the middle of a book, it's impossible!

Then there's writer's block, which is the flu for writers. It takes a long time to get over just when it's the least convenient thing and nothing will come out of your brain. Isn't that the worst? Then when you finally get over it you're excited about writing and turn back into the "OOH! Everything in my life could be a story!" writer. And that's not fun, then there's no real life.

After that there are the procrastinators, who want to write but can't bring themselves to because a banana split with their name on it is calling them. Then video games with a sibling. Then eating lunch, then going out with the fam. All good things, but no writing gets done.

Then you try a different style once you do get back to writing, and it's terrible! But your normal writing just sounds...normal. No?

This is why it stinks to be a writer.

  2. Us writers are stuck in between, half in the real world, half in our own. Like a void.

But who says that stinks? It makes us original!
